Cascia – Norcia
Durata Itinerario : circa 8-10 ore circa
Cascia
The modern territory of Cascia was the home of the settlement of Carsulae, destroyed in the 1st century BC by an earthquake. During the Middle Ages it achieved its greatest splendor. Cascia was the home of Saint Rita of Cascia, who was born in the nearby frazione of Roccaporena in 1381 and died there in 1475. After her canonization in 1900, a large shrine was built in Cascia, which is still an important place of pilgrimage; and the house where she was born may still be visited. Other important monuments are the Gothic church of San Francesco and the church of Sant’Antonio Abate. (fonte wikipedia)
Norcia
Traces of human settlements in the valley date back to Neolithic times, but there is proof that there has been a continuous human presence here since the eighth century BC. The foundation of the city probably dates from the fifth century, to the work of the Sabines, thus becoming the northernmost outpost of the territories under their control. The name Norcia is linked to the Etruscan name Northia of the Roman goddess Fortuna. (fonte wikipedia)
