La Verna – Gubbio
Durata Itinerario : circa 8-10 ore circa
La Verna
La Verna is the true heart of Franciscan worship. In the spring of 1213 Count Orlando of Chiusi della Verna, offered Francis the mountain of La Verna, as a place to retreat that was conducive to contemplation. This later became the place where Francis came for numerous and prolonged periods of withdrawal. In 1224 Francis received the stigmata on this mountain so beloved by him. The Sanctuary now includes a large convent and several chapels that can accommodate the many spiritual pilgrims who visit the site. (fonte wikipedia)
Gubbio
The City’s origins are very ancient, dating back to the Paleolithic era. Remains of a Neolithic village were uncovered in the San Marco area. The town of Gubbio is closely tied to the history of St. Francis, in particular, to an event in his life mentioned in Chapter XXI of the Fioretti di San Francesco, which is the encounter with the wolf. In Gubbio, Francis took refuge after being expelled from Assisi, finding refuge with the Spadalonga family. (fonte wikipedia)
