Orvieto
The city of Orvieto is situated on the flat summit of a large butte of volcanic tufa rock. The site of the city is among the most dramatic in Europe, rising above the almost-vertical face of tufa cliffs that are completed by defensive walls built of the same stone. Highlights of the city include the Duomo of Orvieto, the town’s cathedral church, a masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture. The facade is decorated with a large number of reliefs and sculptures by the Sienese artist Lorenzo Maitani. (fonte wikipedia)

The old medieval town contains renowned sacred buildings, such as the Cathedral della Annunziata, the church of San Fortunato and the convent of San Giovanni Battista. In the Cathedral is a painting of Ferraù da Faenza, inspired by Michelangelo, called The Last Judgment, and in the crypt there is a museum. Outside the walls is the famous Renaissance church of Santa Maria della Consolazione. (fonte wikipedia)
